Great photos turn into great pet portraits.  The image of Grace above shows a lot of coat texture, the eyes are expressive, everything about this photograph is just perfect. I probably could have erased the wooden pole, but I sort of liked it.

I kind of like the wooden beam, myself. In the original photo, the beams in both foreground and background box in Grace's head, which really doesn't work -- but keeping only the beam in the foreground bisects the picture, dividing it not-quite-evenly into abstract and representational halves, playing with the idea of symmetry. Very cool result.
