Steps

Steps

Today I searched for Smalti Mosaic over at flickr and found this charming scene of a woman, child & dog. I have not tried smalti yet, but I did purchase some on-line and have an idea for a smalti piece later this month. I am in awe of the level of detail so many artists can achieve with this chunky material.

I love the laundry hanging in the top right corner on this piece. The white diagonal it forms brings us back into the scene.

This blows my mind. I have not worked with smalti yet, either. Need to use up the vitreous glass and ceramic tiles I have overflowing first. This scene, with steps and the laundry, reminds me of small towns in Europe. Thanks for sharing; I love this mosaic!

I love Doreen's work - it is amazing. Have you see her series on Alice in Wonderland in smalti? I was lucky enough to see one in person in Long Beach this summer - OMG!! Utterly fantastic!

Thanks for the comments ladies. Christine, yes I think I have seen the Alice smalti, did not realize it was the same person. I have been sick this week so Monday's post was a fast one, I will have to dig deeper in Doreen's photo stream and also find her site.
