"Russian Beetle #2"
Rebecca Collins
This is my most recent bug mosaic. He is 9 x 12 and 2 inches deep. I have always found inspiration in old books, and especially well illustrated old books. The base artwork for this was taken from a 1905 book on Russian beetles. The artwork was manipulated in photoshop then printed out and painted on top of with iridescent watercolors. This photo does not do it justice. I will try to shoot again outside. The colors are much prettier than shown here.

FABULOUS! I love it!
Love this new piece and actually all of your mosaics. I found you recently through Flickr and love your kind of mosaic work. I've been doing mosaic with recycled dishes but your glass work has inspired me to try that too. Also looked at your videos and must say that you are wonderfully generous with all your info. Thanks so much Rebecca!
Hi Diane and Helen. Thanks for watching the videos Helen. Don't you just love Flickr! I am just a student of mosaics myself and so I am always eager to share the stuff I am discovering in my journey. I know many people are protective of their knowledge and that is another way to approach art, both approaches have value and can serve the artist well.
Rebecca....this piece is just amazing! I love the way the colors blend together...it almost looks like a painting to me....WOW!
Thanks Jill! That means a lot coming from a fellow digital painter and mosaic artist.

You are a blast, just caught your 'trading' video with Eve. Your Carnivorous Plant was amazing!
Thanks Melissa.
Hi Jodi and thanks for the praise and for dropping by. That swap I did with Eve was one of the highlights of last year. I just adore the piece she sent me. I love playful people.
