Design Elements : Line

"Jake"
Ok so I dropped the ball last week on my design elements discussion. I have just been so swamped with orders lately and that is a good thing.

Where were we .... ah yes "line". I love line and here at Art Paw we use the Wacom tablet to add hand drawn lines and smudges with an electronic stylus. In the portrait of Jake (above) you can see some aqua lines around his jaw and ears ... those were added with the smudge tool set to finger paint. The thick grunge lines around the border were painted on with the paint tool.

Lines:
Lines can be thick, thin, smooth or textured. They can help give detail, show movement, or just set a tone.

Definition: The most basic design tool. A line has length, width, tone, and texture. It may divide space, define a form, describe contour, suggest direction.

" A Line is a dot that went for a walk" - Paul Klee

"The essence of drawing is the line exploring space." Andy Goldsworthy
