Tag Your Dogs!

Shadow, Jake, Buddy, Murphy ???

This is a friendly stray dog that found me this morning. I do not know his name or where he belongs because he has no tags.  So what is your favorite excuse for not tagging a dog?

Here is a list of some of the dumbest excuses I have heard:
"He never goes outside without me"
"He takes his collar off, can't keep one on him"
"Oh I took his collar off to give him a bath and forgot to put it back on"
"I don't like to hear the tags clinking around"
Tag your dogs people! Put your phone number on the tag.  Tag your dogs, tag your dogs, please tag your dogs ...  and do it today.
If you do not want to tag your dog then microchip them.  Sorry for the rant ... I know that all my readers are devoted pet lovers that tag their dogs ... I just needed to vent.

So Now what ....
Tomorrow, we paper the neighborhood, we visit the pound to place a notice and we wait. We try hard to not get too attached to Shadow ( that is what I am going to call him). We try not to get attached because 4 dogs is our crazy person line that we will be crossing some day when we go from 3 to 4 dogs.  Dan and I are both 100% in agreement that 4 dogs is not going to be a good number for us unless one if us is retired, and that is way way down the road.  If we can not find his people we will have to try to get him into rescue, or get on the waiting list for a no-kill shelter. He is a really great dog. You can see it in his eyes can't you?

Awww! He is so lovely. :) I'm sure someone misses him BUT he does look very happy to see YOU.

Our dog is tagless. She hates the clanking tags and actually chewed up an aluminum dog tag that read "Give me a tennis ball and call my family!" She does have a microchip. ;)

Isn't he pretty! I think he is part Great Dane. He has like a blue merle coat and he does that lean against you thing that so many Danes do. Much smaller than a Dane though. I am glad you have that Bullie girl chipped Eve. I had him scanned today ... no such luck on finding a chip.

I hope you can find who he lives with. he's very handsome. you made me laugh saying how 4 is your crazy number, mine is 7. somehow it keeps getting larger !

Leigh lol ... omg, seven! I would love to have seven some day, but I know my limits ( famous last words). This boy is BIG, and he is my kind of big ... old and mellow, I can not imagine what he must have been like as a puppy, we are not big dog owners, we do not have the skills.

We keep buying freaking dog tags ($7 a pop at PetSmart), just to find the tags go missing. I don't know how the dogs keep getting them off their collars and we can't find them. I want to order the collars with the tags attached to them but it takes money. There is my excuse. We're the crazy 4 dog family. 'Course one of our dogs is my daughter's and she keeps saying she'll take him when she get into a place that allows dogs...And here we are....4 dogs...3 cats...a fish...

Your stray looks to be a sweetheart. Also looks like a pretty young dog as well. I hope you find his/her owner.

Sherry- I think Shadow looks young in the face, but he is very stiff like an old man. Take a permanent marker and write your phone number directly on their collar. Or go to Etsy and order a custom collar with your number stitched on it, I saw some cute ones over there the other day. Or give up on tags and get them micro-chipped. Good luck, get those pups some ID in case they get lost.

Good ideas, Rebecca. One of our dogs is tattooed in the ear (the Greyhound rescue) and the tat is registered to us so he can be found that way. My Spinone is microchipped. My Bloodhound? Not yet, but I will have her chipped when we get her spayed. I love the ideas of the collars over on Etsy too. I'll compare the prices of those versus the ones from the dog supply (mail order) places with the tags attached to the collars directly and as soon as we get employment, invest in them. We are very careful with our animals, but occasionally we get rushed at the door or one pulls excessively hard and escapes. I totally agree with your message, by the way, and wasn't being flip when I answered before. I'm just amazed at how the tags keep going missing on us. We just noticed Gio's missing a few days ago!
